Happy Birth Ray, Bernard
The first tune that popped on my shuffle today was a Bernard Hermann track from MYSTERIOUS ISLAND (1961) and then I found out it was not only his birthday, but Ray Harryhausen’s as well. Coincidence? I think not. Hence the awesome title scene above. Below is the fourth and final issue cover to FXRH, a beloved cult magazine from the early 1970′s devoted solely to his work (with Mark Hamill interviewing Kerwin Matthews), now finally in reprint. I’ve written before in tribute to America’s greatest animation auteur, notably when I had the privilege to stand before his beautiful latex and armature creatures and I’ve seen him speak on a few cool occasions. He was my fantasy gateway to film and as he enters his 91st year, his magical work will survive unto the land beyond beyond…

that FXRH cover art is a beauty (and happy belated bday to the mastercrafter RH, what an inspiration, keep on truckin’)
