“The Late Great Johny Ace”

From the massive Simon and Garfunkel “Concert In Central Park,” here’s the final song from Paul Simon’s 1980 underrated transitional, “Hearts And Bones,” one of his best albums. “The Late Great Johny Ace” is a beautiful coda to the 1960’s and of course, John Lennon. The live version here from doesn’t have Phillip Glass’s melancholic strings as on the studio version, but it’s still lovely and poignant. There’s also an unsettling moment where somebody aggressively rushes the stage as Simon sings about Lennon, a visual reminder of a fan’s frightening devotion.
