Love this film. This, and MATINEE, are my two fave Dante films, hands down. He’s one of the few directors to get wonderful performances out of young actors so that they don’t annoy the hell out of you like most of ’em usually do. And Bottin’s makeup effects *swoon* – simply sublime.
It’s a fascinating film and I wish Dante had been able to finish it as he stated in great detail at a screening at the New Beverly last year. There’s even lots of footage (Dick Miller’s sub-plot) that Dante said is probably lost.
Jerry Goldsmith’s score is one of my favorites. Robert Picardo’s monologue at the end is one of my favorite things ever.
