“Technicolor Dreams: Psychedelic Cinema” Trips Into Portland
Yes, after April’s San Francisco show at Other Cinema left the city in a rainbow fog, the gorgeous renovated Hollywood Theatre of Portland, Oregon, will generously play host to TECHNICOLOR DREAMS: PSYCHEDELIC CINEMA 1959 – 1980 on Thursday, August 2 at 9:30 pm. The Hollywood Theatre has been kicking cine-ass, from first-run independent films; a night of grindhouse trailers; PORTLANDIA premieres; and capped with last weekend’s first Cinefamily visit. I’m jazzed and honored to be presenting my show in this lovely theatre and wonderful city. Even more fitting since Oregon was the birthplace of cultural avatar Ken Kesey, who blazed a colorful swath of the psychedelic era and whose influence upon 60’s cinema was powerful if tangential. For more information, you can go to the Hollywood Theatre site. I hope to see one of TD’s unseen regulars there — like Bigfoot, they’re hard to track down. So Turn On, Tune In and Drop By!
